SOURCES OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
Student Planner
The student planner is used as the main method of communication between school and home. Members of staff will make note of rewards and sanctions and your child will also use this to record any homework issued. In addition to this, the planner will be used to report on your child’s progress at key points throughout the year. The planner contains a wealth of information including school policies and contacts. As a parent/carer you must check your child’s planner and sign it each week.
Website
You can use the school website to find a copy of all letters and notices; keep up to date with news from the school; see the school calendar for key information such as Parents’ Evenings and school events; details of school policies; information about catering; details of extracurricular/Enrichment++ activities in school; notices of emergency closures; contact details of staff.
Reach More Parents
Reach More Parents can be used to receive all school communications. It also features a Newsfeed and Calendar, helping parents and carers stay up to date with daily life at the academy.
Schools Contacting Individual Parents
The school will contact parents individually for the reasons listed below:
- As part of the rewards system, we will contact home if your child has shown outstanding levels of effort over a period of time.
- You will receive a letter or phone call if your child has displayed an exceptional attitude and has represented the school in the community.
- As part of our Assessment and Reporting system you will receive regular reports home as to how well your child is performing both academically and behaviourally.
In addition to this you will also be contacted if:
- Your child is absent and the school has not been notified;
- Your child has received a detention or isolation (this will be communicated through the student planner);
- Your child has been issued with a fixed term exclusion;
- We have any specific concerns about your child
PARENTS CONTACTING SCHOOL
- For any general enquiries, please contact your child’s Form Tutor using the school planner.
- We understand that there will be times when contacting the academy by phone is needed either for a general enquiry or to discuss a matter directly with a specific colleague. Where this is for a general enquiry, our reception team will aim to support you with this information. Where the enquiry or matter requires a discussion with a specific member of staff, it is likely that a message will be taken, and someone will call you back outside of the school day. The communication protocol timescales below provide an indication of when you can expect to be contacted by the member of staff you wish to speak to.
- For a persistent/serious issue (including medical) please request contact with child’s Pastoral Support Officer or Head of Year. For non-urgent requests, communication can be made through the Pastoral Team email contact address. – Target Response Time – 2 days
- For an issue regarding the safety or safeguarding of a child, please request contact with one of our designated Child Protection Officers. – Target Response Time – 2 days

Communication
Our preferred method of communication is via email as this provides a written record of communication between home and school.
It also provides members of staff with greater flexibility in responding to communications during and outside of the normal school day if they wish, although they are not obligated to do so. To contact colleagues outside of the Pastoral Team by email, please send emails to
