All students are expected to maintain a high standard of personal appearance. The following is academy dress:

- Black Boston Spa Academy blazer with our name and logo on the breast pocket.
- Boston Spa Academy tie, blue and green diagonal stripes, clipped onto the shirt collar.
- Optional, black ‘V’ necked jumper with the school blue and green trim around the neck.
- Boston Spa Academy tailored skirt: Blue and Green tartan design.

- Smart full-length trousers black in colour must be worn. The academy will apply a common-sense approach to the definition of smart. However, leggings, chinos, skinny jeans, denim trousers, jeggings, or non-school trousers, including those that are cropped in length, will not be permitted.
- Plain white collared shirt, with the top button done up and tucked in at the waistband.
- Plain black leather, patent black leather or leather look, polishable school shoes or ankle boots without any coloured or reflective strips/logos/stitching or tags.
- Laces on shoes or ankle boots should be black and all shoes should have a flat sole.
- Black socks. These must not be ‘trainer socks’ and must go above the ankle.
- Optional plain black belt. All buckles must be discreet.
*It is important to note that skirts must be worn at a length appropriate to an educational setting; we consider this to be knee length. The academy will apply a common sense approach to the definition of appropriate.
If a student chooses to wear trousers they must be plain black trousers with black socks. The academy will apply a common-sense approach to the definition of smart. If a student chooses to wear a belt, it must be black with a non-branded, plain buckle.
All shoes must be plain black leather, patent black leather or leather look, polishable school shoes or ankle boots without any coloured or reflective strips/logos/stitching or tags. - Other equipment such as a bag or holdall for sports kit is essential as items for PE. Equipment should be brought on the day required and returned home on the same day.
The above item of optional PE kit is advised as students will be participating in PE lessons outside in all weather.
Students must hold their equipment in a sturdy school bag which is of a suitable size to hold their planner, equipment and A4 books.
- Planner – provided by the academy;

It is an essential part of academy life that students take pride in their appearance and that this is suitable for a school environment.
Jewellery: Students are allowed to wear a watch (smart watches/fit bits are not allowed), one discreet ring per hand and one earring per earlobe – small stud only. These must be removed for PE. No other piercings are allowed. Students are not permitted to wear necklaces and bracelets/bands (other than for faith reasons), however, students are allowed to wear one charity band.
It has been a long established rule that all items of jewellery are removed before taking part in any PE lessons/activities. Failing to remove items of jewellery could result in students sustaining an injury which could be avoided. To this end, students need to be able to remove items of jewellery, such as earrings, before taking part in PE lessons/activities. As a consequence, this does mean that if students are wanting to have their ears pierced, this must be carried out during the summer holiday to allow for the healing process to take place. If students have their ears pierced at any other time of the year, they will still need to remove the items of jewellery as directed by the teacher.
Make Up: Appropriate make-up is allowed and is defined as foundation (appropriate to the student’s skin tone), black or brown mascara which should be worn discreetly, a small amount of neutral eye shadow if required. No eyeliner, blusher or bronzer is to be worn. If make-up does not comply with academy policy then the student will be sent to their Pastoral Support Officer/Student Services and will be required to wash it off – a negative comment will be issued.
Fake Eyelashes: Fake eyelashes are not permitted.
Nails: False/acrylic nails should not be worn. Coloured nail varnish is not permitted.
Hairstyles: Students must not have patterns or lines cut into the hair. Colourings should be subtle and of natural colours only i.e. no pinks, red, blues or purple, two tone colour patterns or dip dye. Students with inappropriate hairstyles will be placed in Isolation.
Hair accessories: must be appropriate in size and colour for sensible and safe work. Hair Scrunchies/bobbles must not be worn on a student’s wrist.
Tattoos: Tattoos, facial and/or body piercings must not be visible.

Second Hand uniform store
The academy have a Second Hand Uniform Store, which is an opportunity for parents/carers to purchase pieces of the academy uniform which has been donated by other members of our school community. All uniform has been laundered and re-packaged. Parents/carers will be asked to make a small donation to cover the cost of laundering the uniform items.
